Ciénaga de Chilloa9°45′N · 74°30′W

We transform vulnerable territories through science, technology and environmentally and fiscally sustainable strategies.

An independent research center with peer-reviewed publications and proprietary data platforms.

01Where we're heading

Public health, AI and agroecology converging in one model

Three fronts that reinforce each other on the same territory.

01

Public health

Epidemiological surveillance, point-of-care diagnostics and vector control for mosquito-borne disease in amphibious territories.

Aedes · Rickettsia · Chagas · COVID-19

02

Artificial Intelligence

Computer vision and data science applied to Aedes monitoring and public-health decision making.

Col-Ovo · OviLab

03

Agroecology

Recirculating aquaculture, tropic-adapted sheep farming and circular production to reduce pressure on the wetland.

RAS · TropiOvi · TropiFish

02Research record

A continuous record of applied research

Peer-reviewed publications in international journals and proprietary data platforms.

03Amphibious education

AnfibIA: learning on the territory

We bring laboratories and connectivity to the water. Where the classroom doesn't reach, the boat does.

03.1/Long-term vision

An amphibious platform with Industry 4.0 technology

Disruptive, cost-effective education to raise the academic ceiling for rural students in Colombia's flood-prone areas.

01Pilot territory
The Chilloa wetlands and the Momposina Depression, southern Bolívar and Magdalena. Over 17,000 hectares of wetland on which 52,000 people depend, in critical conditions of poverty and food insecurity.
02STEAM methodology
Three-week field cycles around the wetland's fish: capture and biometrics (Science), tabulation and statistics (Mathematics), classifier apps (Technology) and community campaigns (Arts and Engineering). Up to ten community problems solved each year.
03Allied network
10 educational institutions across 35 campuses, 13 associations of fishers, women and farmers, and experts from national and international universities.
04Sustainability
Operation guaranteed by municipal and departmental governments together with scientific–community tourism. The platform can serve as a mobile lab for more than 1,500 wetlands across the Momposina Depression and La Mojana.
04About us

An organization that builds science-based solutions to real problems

Fundación Chilloa develops scientific and technological solutions for vulnerable territories. We are not a traditional NGO: we are an innovation center that operates where the problem and the opportunity exist.

01Team
Researchers, engineers and community leaders working in the field and in the lab.
02Focus
Public health, AI and data, vector control, amphibious education and sustainable productive systems.
03Edge
Science + territory + technology in a single replicable model.
04.1/The Chilloa Model

A replicable system for territorial transformation

Three vertices that reinforce each other: when one grows, the other two grow as well.

03Community
Fig. 2 — Chilloa Model: science ↔ technology ↔ community.
Science
Applied research, peer-reviewed publications and data platforms.
Technology
Digital platforms (ColOVO, OviLab), point-of-care AI and field tools.
Community
Co-design with fishers, teachers, students and local authorities.

A model replicable in other amphibious territories of Latin America.
